Tugboat Thea Belle

Jim Bennett & the Thea Foss

Info:

Jim brought the "Thea Belle" up the coast from San Francisco to Port Orchard in August of 2008. Four miles off the Golden Gate Bridge Jim and his three friends went into fog so thick they couldn't see 200 feet. Then, a gale hit and they spent seven days in 10-20 foot seas in the fog for seven days until entering the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Along the coast Jim took the tug into Fort Bragg, Eureka, and Newport Oregon. Each port was entered at about 11 PM at night, in the storm, in the fog, over the bar, through the jetti, and into the harbor. The GPS navigation made all this possible.

The tug is involved in an ongoing restoration and upgrade project. When all the new systems are completed, it's hoped that the Thea Belle can serve the dual purpose of pleasure cruising and tug work.
